When You're Facing Big Opposition

 • Series: Listening to God

Message Notes: Recall one or two famous historical moments when two sides faced off. What happened? What do we learn about listening to God in Proverbs 3:5-10? What are some of the present-day arenas where you/we face opposition—both literally with other people but also deep inside our hearts, souls, and minds? Explore Elijah’s big opposition story in 1 Kings 18:16-46. Read it and ponder the following Qs: Who’s on each side and what’s the crux of the opposition? How does the big contest unfold? What’s comical and ironic in the scene? How do the various characters respond when God answers? What do you think this story is trying to emphasize about listening to God? Ponder and personalize these two big messages from God: "You can’t just mix me into your self-chosen life religion and philosophy, attempting to control and manipulate your own life. Stop waffling!" "You can encounter me, listen to me, and see me work, wth your fervent prayers." Explore James 5:13-18. How are you encouraged to pray fervently and listen better in response to this passage? As you’re listening right now, how do you need to respond to God? Get Ready for Next Week: Read each day from 1 Kings 19:1-21.
